One-Track Mind

Attention, world!
This is your
representative speaking.

Due
slightly in part to
global warming,
I regret to inform you that
life is almost over.
The sun will
fry
our planet
much sooner
than originally thought
and life will
ceasse to exist
on Earth.

Cancer-causing agents
have been
released
into the
atmosphere
after years of
unhealthy living
and the decisions of
generations past
will haunt us
until our demise.

Education
is on the fritz
(don't even get me
started
on that)
and health care
has reached
an all-time
low.
Low on quality,
not cost.

Through it all,
I encourage you
to vote
me
in the next election,
should the
space station
be perfected
before the
end.

I like the idea of this piece, however, there is a small disconnect (for me) between "the representative" in the first stanza and the request for votes in the last. If the speaker is ALREADY the representative of the world, what office is it exactly that he or she hopes to be voted into?

Just something to think about.

(also, thanks for stopping by my blog & leaving a comment!)
